What a dual-fuel repair actually involves
A dual-fuel system has two heat sources and one brain deciding between them. Most repairs start at that decision point. We read the thermostat programming, the outdoor sensor, and the balance point setting that tells the system when to hand off from the heat pump to the backup. From there we follow the low-voltage wiring between the air handler board, the furnace control, and the outdoor unit. Sometimes the fix is a failed relay. Sometimes a previous install had the stages wired in the wrong order and it never switched correctly.
What we check on the call
We check thermostat configuration and staging, the balance point and outdoor sensor reading, and whether the reversing valve is shifting the way it should. We test the low-voltage circuits, the control board, and the contactor at the outdoor unit. On the backup side we inspect ignition, flame sensing, and safety switches, and we confirm the flue and combustion path are clear. Refrigerant charge and coil condition get measured too, because a weak heat pump makes the backup run constantly and looks like a control problem.
How we decide repair is the right call
We look at what failed and what it cost you. A bad relay, a miswired stage, or a drifting outdoor sensor is a repair, plain and simple. A compressor that has lost compression on a heat pump well past its service life is a different conversation, and we will say so instead of stacking parts on it. Age, refrigerant type, coil corrosion from salt air, and how the two halves match each other all factor in. We give you both options with what each one solves.

Why does my backup heat run when it is not that cold outside?
Usually the balance point is set too high, the outdoor sensor is reading wrong, or the stages are wired so the backup fires with the heat pump. All three are fixable at the controls.
Can one thermostat handle both heat sources?
Yes, but it has to be a thermostat configured for dual-fuel staging and wired for it. A standard replacement thermostat installed without that setup is a common reason changeover stops working.
I smell gas near the furnace. What should I do?
Leave the building right away, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not touch switches or the thermostat. Once the utility clears it, call us and we will inspect the backup side.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us the symptom
Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping, water stains on the ceiling. That detail helps us bring the right parts.
- Step 2
We diagnose on site
A technician checks the thermostat, the electrical side, refrigerant performance, airflow and the condensate line. We find the actual cause instead of swapping parts and hoping the problem stays away.
- Step 3
You approve the repair
We explain what failed, what it takes to fix it, and how long the part is likely to last. Nothing gets replaced until you say go, and we test the system before leaving.

Why homeowners call us
- Built for the salt airCoastal Florida is hard on outdoor equipment. Coils corrode, contactors pit, fan motors seize early. We look for that damage during every air conditioning repair so a small failure does not take the whole system down.
- Condensate lines we actually clearBy late summer, drain lines clog with algae and shut systems off on the float switch. We clear the line, check the pan and the safety switch, and show you what caused the backup.
- Heating tooCold snaps still arrive. We do heating repair and heater repair on heat pumps, strip heat and furnace repair where homes have one, so the system works in January as well as August.
- Plain talk about older systemsIf a repair makes sense, we repair it. If a unit is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say that too and lay out the options. You decide, not us.
- All major brands, gas & electricEvery major HVAC brand, gas and electric, handled by an independent crew.
- Straight answersWhen a replacement beats a repair, we tell you, sometimes before we roll a truck.
